Nordic walking is a new type of sport. Its main feature is the use of poles, similar to ski poles, during walking, which activates all the muscles in the body. This sport is beneficial at any age. Retirees from the Active Longevity Centers in Esil and Nura districts have chosen this type of physical activity. They gather daily at the Botanical Garden for Nordic walking sessions in the fresh air. Master classes on Nordic walking are conducted by veteran athlete Tuganai Beisembayeva, who has over 45 years of experience in the sports field. Currently, 152 retirees participate in the experienced instructor’s training sessions, with the oldest participant being 86-year-old Sabyrzhan Aksakal. “We practice Nordic walking in four groups. Training sessions are held at the Botanical Garden and the ‘Qazaqstan’ Athletics Complex. In winter, depending on the weather, we aim to walk outdoors for 40-45 minutes, even in temperatures as low as -15 degrees. All retirees are active, and some have been practicing this sport for four years,” concluded the center’s physical fitness instructor, Tuganai Koishikyzy. Today, Nordic walking sections are available in all district branches of the Active Longevity Centers. We invite city retirees to join these free sections to improve their health!
