At the Center for Active Longevity in the Almaty district, an essay contest titled “Words of Wisdom — A School of Life” was organized in honor of the 180th anniversary of Abai Qunanbaiuly.
Elderly participants who had studied Abai’s works in depth and thoughtfully reflected on their meaning expressed their interest in taking part. Nearly twenty pensioners from various districts of Astana, all admirers of Abai’s legacy, participated in the contest.

The goal of the essay contest was to widely promote the spiritual heritage of the great poet, to highlight life values through the Words of Wisdom, to develop the creative potential of the older generation, and to support a culture of independent thinking.
A special jury was assembled to evaluate the participants’ works. The jury included Meruert Nurgaliyeva — Head of the Department for the Promotion of Social Services at the Center for Active Longevity and member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan; Turdykul Suleimenova — Head of the “Urzhaqqa Amanat” group for the Almaty district; and Gulnar Sharapidenova — Leading Specialist for the Almaty district.
The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for August 6, 2025.
