The Active Longevity Center in Almaty District hosted a competition in the Kazakh national game “arkan tartu” (tug-of-war). A total of 9 teams participated, comprising 36 active seniors. According to the rules of the game, two teams compete by pulling the rope to drag the opposing team past the central line.
The aim of the event was to enhance the physical activity of elderly participants, foster team spirit, and strengthen social bonds. The national game was intense and engaging, with each participant striving to secure victory for their team and contributing to the excitement of the competition.
Teams such as “Alga,” “Zhuldyz,” “Batyr,” “Shyraq,” “Scandinavians,” “Zholbarys,” “Chess Players,” “Zhenis,” and “Kazyna” demonstrated thorough preparation. The winners were the teams “Zhuldyz,” “Zhenis,” and “Alga.” All winners received special prizes, trophies, medals, and certificates of appreciation.
The tug-of-war competition was organized in collaboration with the Directorate for Sports and Mass Events of the Astana City Administration. “Our center runs intellectual clubs aimed at promoting forgotten traditions. Recently, we held an open lesson on the ‘Enshi Bolu’ custom and a tournament in Toguz Korgool. In the near future, we plan to organize a competition in Asyk Atu. Our seniors show great interest in cultural events aimed at promoting national traditions,” said Dinara Zakir, head of the Social Services Center for Almaty District.
