Today, the Silver Volunteers club at the Center for Active Longevity brings together more than 100 retirees aged 61 to 75.
The volunteers — grandmothers and grandfathers — actively participate in charity events and environmental clean-ups, conduct free master classes, and, as part of intergenerational cooperation, work with schools and students across the capital.

In addition, the Center’s Silver Volunteers, under a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Volunteer Network and the “Astana Zhastary” Youth Resource Center, have implemented numerous social initiatives.

Retiree volunteers in the city are often invited to charity events. For example, members of the Silver Volunteers club in the Nura district held concerts at the Sharapat nursing home and organized charity activities at the Zhansaya and Nurly Zhurek social service centers. In their free time, club members knit clothes and make handmade gifts for children with disabilities.

In November, as part of an annual good tradition, volunteer grandmothers involved in art therapy in the districts of Baikonur and Saryarka visited the Mother and Child center in honor of World Prematurity Day, where they donated handmade items knitted from natural wool.

“This year, our retirees prepared for the charity campaign with special dedication: for two months they gathered to knit woolen items for babies — socks, hats, booties, and small blankets. Everything was made by hand, with warmth and care woven into each piece. In our country, volunteers work in 14 directions, and our retirees voluntarily contribute to about 3–4 key areas, working selflessly for the benefit of society. Since 2026 has been declared the International Year of Volunteers, we have a special plan. We have already conducted a training session to provide methodological support and develop sectoral volunteering in the field of social protection,” noted Kymbat Tasymova, Head of the Department for Strategic Development and Social Projects.

In honor of International Volunteer Day, about 30 retiree volunteers from the Center for Active Longevity were nominated for awards.
