On March 19th, in the settlement of Öndiris in the city of Astana, a festive event called “Baq berekem, qut merekem – ez Nauryz!” was held at the K. Kemengeryuly Secondary School-Gymnasium No. 49.
The event was organized within the framework of the “Generational Connection” project, in collaboration with the pensioners of the Baikonur district and the school students.
The Nauryz celebration began with an exhibition of folk handicrafts displayed in the school’s foyer, followed by a traditional Kazakh feast arranged in one of the classrooms. The school girls sewed 50 quilts, which were presented to the attendees.
In addition, competitions were held among the students, including shooting marbles, playing the “länggi,” tug-of-war, and Kazakh wrestling. Winners were awarded prizes.
The second part of the celebration continued with a concert in the school’s assembly hall. In addition to talented students, the event featured performances by singer-dancers from among the elderly. The songs “Tamasha” and “Ana turaly jyr,” performed by the pensioners of the Baikonur District Active Longevity Center, as well as the dances “Qamajai” and “Qara jorga,” received great appreciation from the audience. Grandmothers showered the audience with candy, while grandfathers offered their blessings to the younger generation.
The school administration expressed gratitude to the grandmothers for their festive songs.
“Today, Nauryz is being celebrated in a special way in the settlement of Öndiris. Our Center is teaching schoolchildren Kazakh traditions and handicrafts. Of course, it is heartening to see the involvement of the older generation in the upbringing of the younger generation. The performances of the pensioners alongside the students on stage created a festive atmosphere,” said Elvira Shamshikenova, Deputy Director of the Active Longevity Center.
Teachers, students, parents, and representatives of the “Zamandas” family club also attended the event.
