A festive volleyball tournament for pensioners from across Astana was held in the Ondiris settlement in celebration of Republic Day. Teams representing six districts of the capital took part in the sporting event and competed against one another.
The main goal of the tournament was to promote a healthy lifestyle among older adults, increase physical activity, encourage interest in sports, and highlight the importance of the national holiday. The competition also helped strengthen social connections among pensioners and encouraged them to lead active and fulfilling lives.
Teams from the Yesil, Almaty, Baikonur, Saryarka, and Sarayshyq districts competed in the men’s tournament. In the women’s competition, teams from the Baikonur and Saryarka districts took part. The participants demonstrated agility, teamwork, and a strong determination to win. Throughout the intense matches, each team put up a worthy fight against its opponents and showcased its sporting skills.

Following the competition, the winners and runners-up in both the men’s and women’s categories received special diplomas, medals, and trophies. The Sarayshyq district team won the men’s competition, while the Saryarka district team took first place in the women’s category.

The Active Longevity Center places particular emphasis on the development of volleyball. Kymbat Tasymova, Head of the Center’s Department of Strategic Development and Social Projects, spoke about the work being carried out in this area.
“Our Center has had a volleyball club since 2023. Twice a week, around 70 pensioners from Astana attend training sessions at the physical education and wellness complex in Koktal and the Zhashtar Palace. The sessions are led by veteran athlete Nurkan Sembaev and active pensioner volunteers, who help ensure that training takes place regularly. Overall, volleyball is developing well at our Center. We are especially pleased to see growing interest in this sport among women as well,” said Kymbat Kalelkyzy.
Such sporting events not only help strengthen the health of older adults but also encourage them to participate more actively in community life. The volleyball tournament dedicated to Republic Day brought joy to the participants and became a memorable festive occasion celebrating friendship, unity, and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
