Today, in the Botanical Garden, a Nordic walking marathon was held in honor of the International Day of Older Persons under the motto “Every step leads to a long life.” The event was organized by the Active Longevity Center and brought together 200 retirees of the capital.

“We do not recognize the concept of old age. The main thing is to stay healthy and, as much as possible, continue to contribute to society. More than 3,500 people visit our centers every day. Our mission is to help them age gracefully: to take care of their health, stay active, and enjoy life. At the centers, they not only do sports but also study languages, attend vocal and dance clubs,” said the Director of the Active Longevity Center, Mukhtar Erketaev.

The main goal of the marathon was to inspire the Center’s participants and their peers to adopt a healthy lifestyle and embrace active longevity. According to the rules of the event, men covered a distance of 3.4 km, while women completed 1.7 km using Nordic walking poles. Special recognition was given to trainers Tolganay Beisembayeva, Marat Sarsembayev, and Kama Isenova, as well as young specialists Aigazy Kanzhan and Mustafa Makhambetuly, who prepared the seniors for the marathon.

The sporting event was supported by the construction company BI Group, the Akimat of Nura district, and the Directorate for Mass Sports Events of the Astana City Akimat. The first to cross the finish line was Nazygul Tungyshbayeva, 63 years old. At the end of the event, winners received commemorative gifts and certificates of appreciation.
