In celebration of International Dance Day, the city of Astana hosted its first-ever dance competition for senior citizens under the title “Spring Drops.” The event brought together amateur dancers aged 61 to 75.
The competition aimed to promote dance art among the elderly, demonstrate the harmony of physical and spiritual well-being, celebrate national dance traditions, and provide seniors with a platform to showcase their talents through dance.
According to the contest rules, participants performed in various genres including national dance, classical, contemporary, ballroom, waltz, tango, and more. Each group was required to wear costumes that matched the style of their dance.
About 10 dance teams from the districts of Almaty, Baikonyr, Saryarka, Nura, and Yesil took part in the event.
The featured teams included: “Kyzdar-ai,” “Aelita,” “Ademi Dauir,” “Magic of Waltz,” “Saltanat,” “Ademi-au,” “Zhana Tolkyn,” “Kyzgaldak,” “Jasmine,” “Elegant Dance,” and “Inzhu-Dance,” each presenting performances in different dance genres.

The senior dancers performed pieces such as “Asemdik,” “Shuudyn Boyynda,” “Ken Dala,” and “Siniy Platochek,” along with Latin-American dances like Cha-Cha-Cha and Bachata, as well as Oriental, waltz, and tango styles.
Several teams included winners of national and international festivals. For example, the “Kyzdar-ai” ensemble from Nura District earned top honors at the “Talanty SUMMER FEST KYRGYZSTAN” International Competition in Kyrgyzstan. The “Ademi Dauir” group from Saryarka District recently won the “ASTANA-KOKTEM-FEST” creative competition.
As a result, the Grand Prix was awarded to the “Kyzdar-ai” team from Nura. First place went to “Ademi Dauir” from Saryarka, while second and third places were shared between “Dostar” from Baikonyr and “Zhana Tolkyn” from Yesil.
Special awards were given in the categories of “Best Costume,” “Audience Choice,” and “Best Dance Performance,” which went to “Elegant Dance,” “Aelita,” and “Kyzdar-ai.”
All participants and winners were presented with commemorative gifts and certificates of appreciation.
